Weeks 1-2: Starting Low and Slow
- Begin at the lowest prescribed dose — typically a small oil dose in the evening
- Take notes: timing, dose, and any effects positive or negative
- Do not increase dose in week 1 — allow time for adjustment
- Expect minimal effects at starting doses — this is intentional and correct
Start low, go slow is the single most important principle in medical cannabis titration.
Weeks 3-4: Titration and Assessment
- Slowly increase toward the target range if starting dose is well tolerated
- Add a second dose only once single dose is established
- Document symptom changes weekly — pain scores, sleep quality, functional ability
- Attend your follow-up appointment with your symptom diary
Most patients reach a stable therapeutic dose within 4-6 weeks. Complex chronic pain patients may continue seeing improvement over 3-4 months.
